From SQL Development to Deployment: My Session at Snowflake BUILD 2025
In November 2025, I had the opportunity to speak at Snowflake BUILD, the Dev Conference for AI & Apps, where I presented a technical session titled How to Build and Deploy SQL Pipelines Using Snowflake Workspaces and Git.
The session focused on a challenge familiar to many data engineers, which is how to make SQL development more collaborative, maintainable and easier to deploy. I did a demonstration of a complete development lifecycle for a SQL data pipeline using Snowflake Workspaces and Git integration.
The demonstration illustrated how Snowflake Workspaces provides a common development environment where data engineers can write, organize, test, and deploy SQL code, covering the key stages of a collaborative development workflow:
- Collaborative SQL development: Setting up Snowflake Workspaces and working with shared code repositories.
- Git integration: Pulling and pushing changes, managing version control, and resolving merge conflicts.
- AI-assisted development: Using Snowflake Copilot to generate SQL code and support development and testing.
- Building a data pipeline: Transforming source data through extraction and staging layers into a dimensional data mart.
- Simplified deployment: Deploying the complete solution through a single SQL deployment script.
The goal was to show not just what the technology can do, but how data engineering teams can apply it in their everyday work.
Speaking at Snowflake BUILD was an opportunity to share my practical experience with the wider data engineering community. I particularly enjoy delivering sessions that go beyond explaining what a technology does to demonstrate how to use it effectively.
